About me
Jessica Powers is a digital media specialist located in Wisconsin.
Experience
Copywriting and Content Creation
Jessica wrote 250-500 word articles for websites including Livestrong, Tyra Banks, and The Motley Fool. Later, Jessica was contracted as a technical writer for the State of Indiana where she wrote helpful guides explaining complicated legislation to lay-persons. She also wrote and designed newsletters and recruitment pamphlets for emerging businesses in Minnesota.

Digital Course Creation and Teaching
Jessica created Englishier, a digital education program focused on English as a Second Language (ESL). After four years as an in-person ESL instructor and two years contracted as an online tutor for other companies, Jessica analyzed specific gaps in the market and wrote a comprehensive speaking and listening curriculum for intermediate level students. Lessons combined live speaking and listening lessons and a progressive online grammar, reading and writing program. In addition to writing lessons, recording videos and teaching online classes, Jessica marketed the program internationally.
Program Creation and Management
As Program Coordinator at Student Project for Amity among Nations (SPAN), Jessica combined her teaching and marketing skills. SPAN is a nonprofit research abroad program formerly housed at the University of Minnesota, but available to students at any Minnesota college or university. As program coordinator, Jessica met with college and university administrators to expand the reach of the program. She also appeared at study abroad events and conferences to market the program directly to potential students. Working under the supervision of the Executive Board, Jessica made significant revisions to the overall marketing plan of the program and increased student enrollment by fifty percent in the first year.

Trivia Mystery was marketed on social media applications including Instagram and Facebook. Jessica created detailed persona profiles to identify participants. These targeted campaigns resulted in a return on investment about 40 percent over market average.
Each live trivia round featured a theme with unique, interactive gameplay. Rounds required a matching graphic, a script for the host, five, fact-checked questions and backend development for seamless user experience. Finally, Jessica built an automatic scoring system to make gameplay faster as audiences grew.
Revenue was generated from weekly quiz events, but mini quizzes, social media trivia posts and live, speed quiz events encouraged organic engagement and led to participation in the paid quiz.
New quiz participants were added to a weekly newsletter list. This newsletter reminded them of the upcoming live event. It also included bonus trivia and factoids to encourage email forwarding to act as word-of-mouth marketing digitally.
Englishier was an online education program for English language learners hoping to improve speaking and listening skills. The interactive program included live speaking lessons, video listening lessons and extensive online grammar lessons.
Market research suggested social media users were interested in practicing phrasal verbs and colloquialisms. Tutors interacted with each social media response to advertise the program to potential users.
Englishier was available to language learners globally, this necessitated an online chatbot which responded to potential clients 24/7. The program was designed to use language familiar to those with limited English abilities.
New clients participated in a free trial lesson to help match them to the appropriate course. This lesson introduced potential students to a tutor, helped them set goals, and taught them how to use the online platform.
Englishier used a combination of Google search ads and Facebook ads. Retargeting ads appeared on YouTube for potential students who visited the website, but did not complete the sign up process.
